Icelandic lawyer Dr. Herdís Thorgeirsdóttir was elected president of the European Women Lawyer’s Association (EWLA) during the association’s 9th congress in Reykjavík last weekend.

Dr. Thorgeirsdóttir is the association’s third president. Approximately 150 people attended the congress, which was addressed by 35 speakers, Fréttabladid reports.

EWLA was founded in 2000 as a platform for women lawyers in Europe, intended to influence legislation and politics in EU and EEA member states on the basis of gender equality.
