Today, the Venice Commission participates in a launch event of Venice Commission/ODIHR Joint Guidelines on Freedom of Association, adopted by the Venice Commission at its 101st Plenary Session (Venice, 12-13 December 2014).
The Guidelines aim to guarantee the right to freedom of association as a tool to ensure that citizens are able to fully enjoy their rights to freedom of expression, whether practiced individually or collectively.
As such, these Guidelines are intended for use to legislators and, more generally, to serve public authorities, the judiciary, legal practitioners, associations and their members. In addition, the OSCE/ODIHR and Venice Commission hope that these Guidelines will be a useful source of information for the general public.
The President of the Venice Commission, Director of OSCE/ODIHR and the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association are participating in the event.
